What is a strong woman poem?

A strong woman poem is one that women find both inspirational and empowering to read. These are poems that can be particularly encouraging to read when you are going through a tough spell because they remind the reader that they are truly a strong and amazing woman.

Through the verses of these poems, readers are inspired to push themselves to reach their full potential and encouraged not to lose heart during such times of hardship.

Having a copy of a strong woman poem hung somewhere you can read it regularly, ensures that the poem really does fuel your inner strength and it becomes like a mantra that helps to drive you forwards.

Born in St Louis, Missouri, Marguerite Johnson, better known as Maya Angelou (1928-2014), was a poet and world famous author who became famous for her powerful and unique writing style. Phenomenal Woman Print by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Phenomenal Woman was first published in 1978. In the poem, Maya Angelou suggests that instead of the established social expectations of women, being confident in yourself as a woman is the true sign of beauty.

Another strong woman poem in our collection is  Our Deepest Fear written by Marianne Williamson. The poem discusses spirituality and self perception, coupled with self confidence and that our deepest fear is not that we think we are inadequate, but that we are more powerful than we know. It is the strength and brightness of our personal radiance that is frightening-

Our deepest fear Print By Marianne Williamson

Our Deepest Fear

it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other

people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Another of the inspirational poems found in the  Penman’s Den collection is The Hill We Climb, written by the young American poet Amanda Gorman. The poem was recited by her at the inauguration of Joe Biden as American President in Washington DC in January 2021.Her poem is based on speeches by American leaders through history and is an encouraging strong woman poem with powerful words that can are stimulating to everyone – and not just Presidents.

The Hill We Climb

When day comes we ask ourselves,
where can we find light in this never-ending shade?
The loss we carry,
a sea we must wade.
We've braved the belly of the beast,
We've learned that quiet isn't always peace,
and the norms and notions
of what just is
isn't always just-ice.
And yet the dawn is ours.
